The Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi) in Izmir is set in the centre of the city in Konak Square and has become the symbol of Izmir. Standing over 80ft (24 m) high this lavishly decorated and elegant clock tower was designed on the lines of late Ottoman/Moorish style and presented to the city by Sultan Abdulhamid in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his ascending the throne.
