Haghia Sophia is among the largest of ancient buildings in the world today, covering an area of 7570 square meters. It is over 100 metres long and its dome, supported by 107 columns, is over 55 meters high and 32 meters wide. The 'Church of Holy Wisdom', was completed during the 6th century under Emperor Justinian's rule, and is the most noteworthy masterpiece of Byzantine art and Eastern Christian church architecture. The Byzantines never attempted to build anything reminiscent to the scale of Haghia Sophia with its range of architectural styles again. One of Istanbul's most enticing attractions.
